We are proud to announce, alongside our partners at Crombie, the start of construction on Faubourg Contrecœur, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Sobeys and several guests of honor, including the Member of Parliament for La Pointe-de-l'Île, Quebec
Mario Beaulieu represented by David Jauvin, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, Member of Parliament and leader of the Parti Québécois, Pierre Lessard-Blais, mayor of the Mercier Hochelaga Maisonneuve borough (and city councelors), accompanied by city councilors and local stakeholders.

This groundbreaking ceremony officially launches the construction of the future IGA Extra, the main tenant of this service center, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2026. Residents of the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood will find essential amenities such as a butcher shop, a bakery, and a Rachelle Béry department, all in an environment that fosters a close partnership with local producers.

“Today marks a significant milestone for the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve community. It is with great enthusiasm that we break ground on a development that will bring long-awaited amenities to residents,” says Tyler Harden, Co-CEO of Harden. “Our vision has always been to create a space that enhances daily life, supports local jobs, and fosters growth for the entire community. Partnering with Crombie to bring Faubourg Contrecoeur to life allows us to support the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve community and respond to a significant need.”

Faubourg Contrecoeur is the result of a partnership between Harden and Crombie. It covers more than 240,000 sq. ft. of land and stands out for its sustainable design approach: solar roofs, electric vehicle charging stations, green spaces, and bike paths. More than 170 parking spaces will complete the development, designed to meet the current and future needs of the community.

Two commercial spaces measuring 10,000 sq. ft. and 3,000 sq. ft. are also available and will enhance the offering to make residents' daily lives easier.

At Harden, we are committed to creating spaces that support local economies, meet the needs of residents, and strengthen community spirit.
